HENRY SCHOLFIELD// auteur

Henry started his career by directing street-style music videos in the UK for the genre of grime, he still continues to make videos for big urban artists, but also directs music videos for other music genres, e.g. pop music.

His camera movements are swift and fluid, including choreography in his videos (this usually takes place at the end of the music videos).

Henry won Best Director at the 2019 MVA's after filming Stormzy's 'Vossi Bop' music video (which won Best Video), showing his success as an auteur.

His filming usually flows from one scene to another, following the artist throughout the video.

As shown in the image of 'New Rules', at

the beginning of the music video, Henry made the title of the song match with the background, so it blends perfectly with the late night visuals.

New Rules

In this music video there are a lot of neon, bright colours, which contrasts to Stormzy's Vossi Bop music video, that he directed (which had darker visuals, taking place in open locations around London). This presents how Henry fits the artist and their aesthetic into their music videos, whilst incorporating his own style.

The personal style of Henry's work appears to be based around the smooth movements of the camera, following the artists whilst taking in the scenery around them subtly. He includes choreography throughout the music video, instead of having the artist walk around the building (which is more visually pleasing and more entertaining). Henry makes every scene artistic with either the colours or movements of the camera, in this video he films a couple of scenes with flamingos and then Dua Lipa and the other women in the video imitate the flamingo's poses. Moreover, the video is mostly using direct mode of address, using close ups of Dua Lipa regularly.

I am interested in using the bright, pastel colours for the outfits in my music video, as this will make my music video fit more of an artistic aesthetic, making my characters appear as though they are in another time period (if styled correctly). Furthermore, i intend to use lights to create a decorative atmosphere, enhancing the surroundings.
